Food and Wine Lover's Guide to Melbourne and Surrounds

Launched early 2006, with preface by Stepanie Alexander, Glen Isla House featured in the Phillip Island section along with Island Primary Produce and Free-Ranger Eggs.

Our resident professional chefs Ian and Martin prefer local produce and use Phillip Island beef and lamb from Island Primary Produce, and free-range eggs from Blue Mountain Creek, Grantville in the menus at Glen Isla.

Slow Food - 2005 (A Taste of Slow)  

The Pure Gippsland - "Chefs of Gippsland" dinner 3rd September 2005 featured the Glen Isla  signature dish (Blue Mountain Creek Free-Range Egg Creme Brulee) from the Glen Isla Table D'Hôte menu..  Featuring only chefs from Gippsland, this event showcased Gippsland produce in the special menu for the evening, matched with local Gippsland wines.  This was a regional event of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival "Taste of Slow" conducted by Slow Food Gippsland Convivia.

Nature in the Balance

"Phillip Island is a delicate environmental wonderland" says Paul Edwards in the Melbourne Sunday Age newspaper (7th July 2005).  Paul goes on to talk about the many things to do on the 'Nature Island' especially in the winter months!

Italian Film Crew - Gekofilm for RAI

December 2005: Italian film-makers Emmerson Gattafoni and Valeria Cagnoni chose Glen Isla to feature as their preferred accommodations for their documentary being made for RAI television (Italy) Drems Road 06 - Raivno Italy. Emmerson is a good friend of Livio Suppo of the Ducati Corse MotoGP team!  Their description: "The best on Phillip Island"

Summer Festival 2004 - Glen Isla hosted an exclusive Wine Maker’s “Grand Island Indulgence” dinner as part of the Gippsland Slow Food Summer Festival for 2004.

David Lance, renowned wine maker from Diamond Valley Vineyards and Phillip Island Wines guided diners through a magnificent 5 course dinner matched with carefully selected wines from the estate grown Phillip Island Wines.  To see the menu and wines for this event, click here (PDF version - 119 Kb).

Winter Festival 2004

Glen Isla House hosted another Slow Food "Grand Island Indulgence Dinner" in August 2004.  The theme of the evening - "Back to the heart of Perugia" with Chef Martin drawing on his experiences at University Sapori in Perugia where he studied Italian Cuisine and Produce in 2002.

Red Cross Charity Day at Glen Isla

Red Cross Charity Day 2005 and 2006  

Glen Isla House opened the magnificent heritage gardens and provided Devonshire Teas for an Australian Red Cross charity fundraiser in aid of Austyralian Red Cross.  Resident chef Martin Baker baked scones, and the family donated all food and time for the day along with a overnight B&B stay which was raffled on the day.  Some 300 visitors came and enjoyed the sunny afternoon and Devonshire Teas served by volunteers from Phillip Island Red Cross. Over AUD$3,000 was raised for the appeal in 2005 and just over $1000 was raised in 2006. Watch for the 2007 date!

Gardens & Outdoor Living Magazine

June 2006

"Plant People" features Madeleine and her passionfruit vines.  Lisa Habermann from Gardens and Outdoor Living visited Glen Isla on her quest for interesting articles about people and their gardens.  The heritage gardens at Glen Isla date back to 1870, but more recent additions include the resplendent passionfruit vine shown in the article here, and a large kitchen herb garden.  The produce from both is used regularly in the Glen Isla kitchen by chefs Ian & martin and appear on the menus!  The roses from the gardens often adorn the guest rooms at Glen Isla when they are in bloom also.

Tourism Victoria - Board of Directors at Glen Isla

The board, chaired by Mr John Morse, AM chose Glen Isla House to hold their monthly Board meeting in April 2006.  

Glen Isla showcased Phillip Island 5 star hospitality with regional and local food during lunch prepared by Glen Isla's resident chef's Ian and Martin.
